UCEA Policy Fellow Call

February 23rd, 2018 by

UCEA is seeking faculty advisors with strong policy-related experience and knowledge to serve as a Policy Fellow.  This position allows faculty members committed to promoting high-quality policy surrounding educational leadership to have a high and multiplying impact in a concentrated time frame.

To enhance our policy initiatives, UCEA has developed a motivated group of policy-engaged doctoral students at higher education institutions across the country called Policy Associates. Policy Associates are competitively selected to participate based on faculty recommendations and a demonstrated record of promising, policy-related work. As a Policy Fellow, faculty will serve as an advisor to a small group (2-3) of Policy Associates.

The goals of the Policy Associate and Policy Fellow program include 1) generate new, written content addressing critical policy questions impacting education leadership before local, state and federal governments, 2) amplify the voice of UCEA and educational leadership researchers among key policymakers and 3) develop a human resource structure which allows UCEA to respond to emerging policy topics in a policy-relevant time frame.

Responsibilities of a Policy Fellow include:

  • Electronically meet with you designated group of Policy Associates bi-monthly to monitor the status of their work, receive updates and share ideas;
  • Provide reliable and substantive feedback on policy/research briefs written by the Policy Associates and;
  • Meet semi-regularly with the UCEA Associate Directors for Policy to offer constructive feedback on UCEA’s policy initiatives.

It is estimated that each Policy Fellows will need to allocate 4-5 hours of time each month to these initiatives.

Educational leadership policy at all levels will benefit from the perspective of experienced researchers.  Share your expertise with emerging scholars and help positively inform the creation of high-quality public policy.
