UCEA Spotlight March 2022

March 30th, 2022 by

Dear UCEA,

Midterms, spring break, March madness, oh my! I hope the early spring has been inspiring, restorative, and beautiful so far … with more in store in the coming weeks.

In this Spotlight we continue to share information on upcoming events, resources, and current news. We continue to plan and prepare for AERA. Our graduate student programming – Clark Seminar, Jackson Scholar Symposium, and the Researcher Development Program – is in the final planning stages and we are looking forward to seeing you all at our first in-person joint reception with Divisions A and L and SAGE on April 22nd.

In other UCEA news, we have several important timelines coming up,

Please continue to check the website for updated information. Note: direct any questions regarding the awards to uceaawards@gmail.com
I am happy to share that the University of Denver is now a full member of UCEA. In addition, I am thrilled to welcome Cal State Stanislaus as a new associate member. Congratulations to the faculty from both programs and we look forward to seeing you in Seattle! Please visit their websites for more program information.
Even as we start the spring season with hope and anticipation, it is important to take a moment to recognize what is happening here and around the world. The war in Ukraine is raising fears and concerns among many, Covid continues to create uncertainty across contexts, the vitriol and disrespect on display during the SCOTUS hearing highlighted (yet again) the strength of systemic racism, and the continued attacks on academic freedom in K12 and higher education are alarming. There are no list of resources or information that can put any of these – or us – at ease. I can only say that I am there with you – we must be here for each other, and that we will survive and thrive together. In the past twenty four hours I have watched, over and over again, this clip of Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson speaking to our youth. I watch it for inspiration, for the grounding of our work, and for the model of leadership that she presents. I hope you watch it and bookmark it for those days that seem particularly long.

As always, I appreciation you all!
Adelante UCEA!
