Look for a special session sponsored by our UCEA Center featuring:

International Comparative Governance Project
Meredith Mountford and Thomas Alsbury (Co-PIs) are working with the ISRN
on an international comparative study of school governance similarities
and differences in Scotland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark. The
findings will be presented in an edited book with each chapter featuring
the comparative analysis between the United States and each European
country. Future phases of the project will replicate the study in other
countries.

International Superintendent Research Network Partners
A business meeting was convened at the University Council for
Educational Administration (UCEA) Convention in November in Anaheim,
California, USA.  At this business meeting participants agreed that Olof
Johansson should take the lead and apply for two symposia at the
European Conference for Educational Research (ECER) 2010 (Helsinki
August 23 – 27). In addition participants made a brief presentation to
the UCEA Center for the Study of the Superintendency business meeting
and suggested that we collaborate in undertaking a wider range of
international studies of the superintendency.
 
International Superintendent Research Network Partners
Researchers participating in the Nordic study and others presented
papers on superintendent roles At the Annual Meeting of the American
Educational Research Associations (AERA, 2010-Denver, Colorado),
Research on the Superintendency Special Interest Group (SIG) business
meeting. In addition, they will make be a short presentation of the
International Superintendents Research Network (ISRN). The presentation
will be at the  37.048. Research on the Superintendency SIG Business
Meeting and Discussion of Cross-National Comparisons of Superintendents’
Leadership Roles. SIG-Research on the Superintendency; Business Meeting
Sheraton, Plaza Concourse Level, Plaza Court 5, Saturday Evening: 6:15
pm to 7:45 pm

Directly after that meeting and in the same room, there was held a third
ISRN business meeting at AERA. Agenda items of importance include
organizing proposals for the UCEA, November, 2010 conference (New
Orleans) and update on members ongoing research and ISRN homepage. 

International Superintendent Research Network Partners
A symposia was accepted for the European Conference for Educational
Research (ECER/EERA) (Helsinki, 2010) include: (1) “Superintendent their
institutions, professional work: A US – Nordic Empirical Comparison” and
(2) “Searching for the Superintendent: Their institutions, professional
work and communities of practice”. This latter symposium provides an
opportunity for colleagues recently joining the initiative to present
research papers. Both symposia were accepted.
