The First Annual UCEA Day on the Hill (November 14, 2007) will begin with a workshop at the Hilton Alexandria Marc hotel. The workshop will consist of a keynote kickoff speech as well as three workshops focused on talking points to be delivered during the visits to the “Hill.” |
Keynote Kickoff: Cynthia Wilkinson, 21st Century Group, Inc.
Workshop One: Leadership Matters
Facilitated by: Steven Gross, Temple University and Gary Crow, Florida State
University
The content of this workshop focuses on talking point one: how leadership
matters for teaching excellence and student learning. Also during this
workshop you will learn how to tell stories about your program or program
graduates powerfully and succinctly.
Workshop Two: Quality Leadership Preparation
Facilitated by: Terry Orr, Bank Street College and Kathleen Brown,
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
The content of this workshop focuses on talking point two: the
characteristics of quality leadership preparation and its importance to
leadership performance. Also during this workshop you will learn how to
keep conversations during your visit focused on the key points we have
identified about leadership preparation.
Workshop Three: Improving Leadership Preparation and Practice
Facilitated by: Andrea Rorrer and Diana Pounder, University of Utah and
Catherine Lugg, Rutgers University
The content of this workshop focuses on talking point three: the importance
of developing quality measures of leadership preparation that enable program
improvement. Also during this workshop you will learn about the etiquette of
visits to the hill as well as how to elicit promises from your leaders that
they will support high quality leadership preparation.
Note: Each UCEA Day on the Hill participant will rotate through each of the
above three workshops during our morning session.
