International Symposium on Educational Reform (ISER)

The purpose of the International Symposium on Educational Reform (ISER) is to provide venues for university graduate students, educators, professors, practitioners and policymakers to examine educational reform from a global perspective, discuss common issues facing educational leaders, and to promote international understanding.

National School Board Association (NSBA)

Prior to the acceptance of our UCEA Center proposal, Dr. AlsburyCoordinator & Co-director) conducted previous work with NSBA, through
the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB). Dr. Alsbury and Dr.
Meredith Mountford (Center Co-director) are project researchers with
IASB who is collaborating with NSBA and the Fordham Foundation to
conduct the first national school board survey, funded by the Wallace

through the Center.

International Superintendents Research Network (ISRN)

The purpose of the International Superintendents Research Network (ISRN)
is to convene researchers in a global effort to study the district
school superintendent. The ISRN supports scholarly research that ranges
from comprehensive studies that are national in scale to those that have
more specific foci. ISRN utilizes technology to share research designs,
methods and instruments, increase accessibility research findings, and
to facilitate communication and collaboration among scholars. The
Network provides a vehicle for supporting the design and conduct of
international comparative studies as well as a venue for collaboratively
publishing findings at international conferences as well as in refereed
journals, books and book chapters. The ISRN is associated with the
University Council for Education (UCEA) Joint Program Center for the
Study of the Superintendency, the American Educational Research
Association (AERA) Research on the Superintendency
, and the European
Educational Research Association (EERA).

International Comparative Governance Project

Meredith Mountford and Thomas Alsbury (Co-PIs) are working with the ISRN
on an international comparative study of school governance similarities
and differences in Scotland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark. The
findings will be presented in an edited book with each chapter featuring
the comparative analysis between the United States and each European
country. Future phases of the project will replicate the study in other
countries.
